New Mom Coach for Asian Americans
Confinement nannies (陪月 in Cantonese, 月嫂 in Mandarin) are not a new invention. Their job is to physically take care of the baby and new mom postpartum. In the United States, a modern take on postpartum care is getting premade, healing Chinese meals delivered to your house. These are all great, but these traditional postpartum care methods don’t support your mental health and emotional wellbeing.
I often felt stuck between two worlds throughout my pregnancy and postpartum journey as a first-generation, first-time Asian American mom. Our Asian parents are typically too traditional with their parenting styles. I grew up in a household where my mom was a SAHM and my dad was the breadwinner. We were well provided for, but he never took care of us in the way that I expect my husband to actively raise our daughter.
Additionally, science and technology have advanced a ton since our parents had us. Imagine how much cell phones have evolved in the last 10 years. Now imagine that over the span of 3 decades! On top of that, mental and emotional needs are unfortunately still taboo and not discussed frequently in Asian cultures. I understand how tough it may be to open up to your loved ones during your journey.
That is where I come in. As a toddler mom who has recently just gone through what you’re going through, I can help with the following and more through one-on-one coaching. Services are offered virtually via webcam, phone, or text depending on the program best for you.
During Pregnancy
Prepare for motherhood with support tailored to your unique experience. I’ll help you manage new mom anxiety, understand what to expect as your due date nears, and set clear, realistic expectations with your partner for a smoother transition.
Postpartum
Add me to your village for the critical 4th trimester. I’ll work with you to set visitation boundaries, provide breastfeeding & pumping tips, and everything else the new title of “mama” entails. The goal is to prioritize your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Working Mom
Make the shift to working motherhood by confidently finding the right work-life balance. Together, we’ll create strategies to manage the transition and tackle mom guilt, so you can thrive in both your career and your role as a mom.
Other big topics we can discuss during our sessions: Asian vs modern parenting, TTC / miscarriages, toddler years, in-law issues, generational trauma, multi-cultural / racial families, baby-led weaning & food intolerances
Yes – this is an exciting time – but I wholeheartedly understand that it’s also a daunting new chapter that you’re being thrust into. “Mother” is being permanently added to your identity, and it’s only natural to be anxious. Let me be your confidante and your personal cheerleader.
